European Biotech Week 2021: EuropaBio invites national biotech communities to celebrate science and innovation

Brussels, Belgium – 15 June 2021 EuropaBio officially launches the campaign of the European Biotech Week 2021 and invites the biotech community to celebrate science and innovation on European and national levels.

The European Biotech Week, which takes place 27 September -3 October this year, is a momentous occasion to better understand the world we live in for both scientists and society. To do so, the Biotech community, policymakers, companies and academia are invited to organise their own events on the local level addressing the benefits of biotech for people and the planet.

‘We are delighted to host European Biotech Week in its 9th edition. Previous years have proved that public information is crucial for informed European citizens on biotechnology and its impact on their health and everyday life. At the same time, this week is a perfect opportunity for scientists, companies, academia and policymakers to gather together physically or online and address ongoing challenges and find synergies for enhanced collaboration, says Dr Claire Skentelbery, Director General of EuropaBio.

This year’s Biotech Week will be launched with EuropaBio event ‘Biotechnology for society – Turning science into a sustainable and healthy world’ which will take place on the 27th of September. The biotech community will discuss how science finds its way to an end-use, whether it is a new medicine, or a product developed using new scientific processes.

On the 29th of September EuropaBio’s Healthcare team will host the event ‘Investing in healthcare – How can the revision of the general pharmaceutical legislation better attract investors in the future?’. The event will look into the evaluation and revision of the general pharmaceutical legislation and how to create a future-proof, patient-oriented and leading life science and biotechnology sector in the EU.

Finally, the Association’s Industrial team will discuss the potential of SMEs in the discussion organised on the 30th of September. The event, titled ‘The small companies changing the world: Meet the science and business of sustainability’ will celebrate progress towards a more sustainable and climate-neutral life, and learn from the best solutions from European SMEs.
